Some of our success stories:
Kate Lord, moved into Ashwell Lodge in August 2011 until November 2015.
Kate has said “Ashwell Lodge was good for me, I enjoyed living there. It is like a big family and my confidence grew and I was encouraged to improve the skills I had, which meant that I was able to move out when I felt ready. I go back every now and then and see my friends and the staff and last Christmas I went and helped cook the dinner.”
"I have lived at Ashwell Lodge for around 10 years. I am bi-polar and suffer bouts of severe depression, and have some physical health issues which fluctuate.
My experience at Ashwell Lodge has been excellent. I can honestly say I would not be as well today, physically and mentally, without the support – both practical and emotional, from the support staff and the owners. However busy they are, they always make time to listen to me and support me.
The support given is very flexible depending on my needs at the time, for example I was recently diagnosed with diabetes and became very confused managing my medication. We, therefore, agreed it would be held centrally and managed by staff until I felt less confused, when I went back to managing my own medication.
When difficulties come my way it always helps to know that someone is there for me when I am feeling low. I have lots of friends here and I am very happy here and wouldn’t want to live anywhere else."
“I have lived at Ashwell Lodge for a long time, I feel safe and secure here and do not want to move elsewhere. I enjoy the feeling of being part of the Ashwell family and know that I can ask the support workers for help if I need it. I also have carers that come in and help me to look after myself.”
“I enjoy living at Ashwell Lodge the environment is very supportive with staff here 24 hours a day. I feel well supported by the staff who help me with my medication and my cleaning jobs. I like the other people who live here, it feels very homely and safe.
I prepare my own meals and the staff are always on hand to help me if I need it.”
“I like living here, I like the communal space and enjoy watching the TV with the other residents. I like my room and the fact I have my own bathroom. We are going on holiday soon and I’m really looking forward to it.”
“I like living at Ashwell Lodge, it’s near to the beach and close to the town and shops. I get on with the staff and most of the residents. I socialise and go out with my friends. I go to Boscombe Connect a couple of times a week and do lots of activities like tennis, bowling and snooker, etc. I’ve tried living somewhere else but I wasn’t happy.”

Our clients receive a compassionate approach to their care needs with clear recognition from staff where limitations lie and acknowledgement of when to request support. There is always a warm and welcoming entrance into the accommodation, from clients and staff alike, with emphasis on it being a homely environment. The staff remain professional in their approach to ensuring that their clients needs are being met, and are willing to engage with other services when needs require it. They have demonstrated compassion for their clients needs and been willing to ensure that they are safe and all parties involved are aware of issues when they arise."
